The Carter House was built by Fountain Branch Carter in 1830 and is now a Civil War Museum. The house lies in the middle of the Battle of Franklin, one of the worst Civil War battles. It was used by Union troops as a command post, while the Carter family hid in the basement as the sounds of cannons and gunfire surrounded them. Another member of the Carter family, son Todd Carter had been in the battle. He had been found on the battlefield but died 2 days later in the house. The house is rumored to be haunted by Tod Carter and his sister Annie. Witnesses have seen spirits, a statue jumping up and down, tugging at their clothing and unexplained voices.

First time

I went with my school for the first time, some boys in my class said a door opened on its own. In the carter house there is a game of chess and one of the parts was wobbling a bit. For some reason we wasn't allowed upstairs, I started getting a headache and I felt like on of the pictures was watching me. The tour guides say it's haunted but I believe there are still spirits not able to pass on. I do recommend going in the day time it's really fun to learn about what happened.

My school field trip at the Carter house

The only thing that really happened was that my friend felt something scratch him and in one spot he was hot and below that spot was cold, also my friend had a headache as soon as we arrived and weirdly we were not allowed upstairs where someone reported feeling really sad in a upstairs bedroom and we could not go in parlor where tod died

Carter House

Enjoyed very much, but when entering upstairs bed room I was overwhelmed with a heaviness in the air along with extream sadness, nausea, and my heart pounding fast, wanted out fast, and I felt very hot all of a sudden. When we got outside I felt better. I feel like there are a lot of spirits still there.

Unprecedented

I had no knowledge of the Carter House prior to the tour. I s suddenly felt sick to my stomach as soon as I walked in the house. As the group moved from the parlor to the adjoining living room, my toddler started fussing so we left that room and stayed at the foyer. As we stayed there, I heard and saw one of the door locks click and move as if someone tried to unlock and lock it. The door has a slit wnoigj to see what’s on the other side. As the door locked clicked and moved, I looked at the slit to see if there was a shadow of someone on the other side. To my surprise, there. I didn’t think much of it at that time. The group I was a part of proceeded to the basement and I felt sicker there I almost threw up. It was as if there was cold air and some energy that quickly wearing me down! As we headed to the porch, I excused myself from the tour to take a breather. That’s when I realized I may have had an encounter with the “unseen world” or a paranormal experience inside the Carter House!

Yes, this property is as haunted as the Carnton Plantation. I believe the spirits here are unsettled and crave attention.

My first visit!

We decided to do a spontaneous adventure and we ended up at the carter house. I've had multiple experiences with ghosts or spirits in my past. We took the tour and the tour guide of course talked about the civil war. I was standing in the living room/bedroom and my heart started pounding and I'm not doing anything. I know that sometimes spirits affect your body or emotions some way. I didn't think much about it. We walked into the next room (the parlor) and I just felt sad. When we walked outside I felt fine and my heart wasn't hurting anymore. When we went to the basement the tour guide was talking about the carters son that died in the parlor and i knew that I most likely felt residual energy possibly. I knew nothing about his house except the bullet holes in the house. Sorry if my story wasn't super crazy experience but its entertaining I guess lol. But I did feel like someone was watching in the house.
