The Inn at Hunt-Phelan
Memphis, TN 38103
The Inn was built around 1830 and is rumored to be haunted by a servant of the Hunts, the former owners. Before the Hunts left the home in 1873 to escape a yellow fever epidemic, they put a chest of gold into their servant, Nathan Wilson's hands. Nathan was later found dead of yellow fever in the home shortly after, with a shovel at his side and muddy boots. He had tried to bury the gold so it was kept safe, and no one knows where. To this very day, the spirit of a man in 19th-century attire can be seen, and he appears desperate to convey his message to those who will listen.
